Free Breakfast Anyone?

There were five of us this morning at the College Park metro station, passing out free Nutri-grain breakfast bars... we got started later than I normally like (around 8:15a), but we accomplished quite a bit: probably passed out around 250 bars in 30-40 minutes! Tomorrow, though, we're getting started around 7am, and we should be able to more than double that number! Of course, the good thing is that we also get to put our new EXTREME message series impact cards in their hands, as well.

Please pray for every breakfast bar handed out, that God would impress upon the heart's of the people to read our card... and compel them to pay Mosaic a visit! ;-)

Back Again...

We started back this morning with our metro outreach at the College Park Metro Station... passing out Nutra-grain breakfast bars to people headed in to work. Hadn't been out there since it was still cold in the mornings. We touched about 150 people, but I never cease to be amazed at the numbers of people who pass up FREE anything! As a matter of fact, some people treat you like the plague... astounding, I tell you! Yet, there are those who are grateful (and no doubt hungry) and, with a humongous smile on their face, take a bar along with one of our impact cards.
Please pray that those cards were given, or will make their way, to people who could really benefit from them... and that they'll make it out to one of our services, or at least visit our website for info!

Another Day, Another 400 Breakfast Bars!

Out again at the metro station today... the cool thing is that people are starting to recognize me! I could see this one lady from about 40ft. away... she got off the bus and, as soon as she saw me, she was smiling... as if to say, "The breakfast bar guy is back!"

Another cool thing was that today was the first day that someone actually received a bar and impact card... stop... and ask, "So where is this church?" And that happened 2 or 3 times! Usually, people are rushing to get their farecard and hop on the train... and they stop long enough to get the goods and say a quick "Thank you," but that's usually about it. So, we're praying for some fruit soon!

But it's like planting... you just don't get a return right away... it doesn't work like that! But, just because you don't get a harvest right away, it doesn't mean you stop sowing your seed! You keep on going, knowing that... in time... you'll receive a bumper crop that makes all the sowing worthwhile!

On a funny, albeit embarrassing, note... it was SO COLD this morning (I was out there from 7:15-9:15am), that at around the 90 minute mark my face and lips were starting to feel numb... and I could barely say, "Free breakfast bar!" It sounded more like, "Fwee bwikfst bah... uhh... fwee bwak... HERE!" :-)

It was cold. man... no joke... but prayerfully, someone's heart was warmed by the kindness of receiving a cereal bar for free. PRAY that the impact card will lead their fingers to our website and their feet to our worship gathering... and their heart to a radically-loving God who wants to transform them from the inside out.

And I'll stand in the freezing cold indefinitely for that. ;-)

Snowy Day in College Park!

Yup... it's snowing here in MD... the first snow of the season for our area! COOL BEANS!! Not enough to get too excited about... only 1-2 inches expected... but it's beautiful... and it's COLD out!!

Still, I went out this morning for our "Breakfast Bar Outreach" at the metro station, and had a couple of helpers... students from Univ. of MD: Kari came out to Mosaic on Sunday, and enjoyed it so much that she wanted to come out today to help... AND she brought her roommate, Lindsay, to help, as well! LOOK AT JESUS!! It was great having them out there today... even in the cold. Lindsay was so cold, she kept a little "dance" going, just to keep warm... ha!

But it's been exciting to see how God's been strategically placing people of peace AND INFLUENCE in my path over the last few weeks... and I'm looking forward to seeing how He's going to use them (and He WILL use them) to help connect us BIG-TIME to students on campus!

Not About Me!

Still not feeling well, and not up to thinking about what to write... so I thought I'd re-publish one of my earliest posts that might have missed alot of you guys. Hopefully, it will stir up some dialogue (it did before... haha). Here goes:

THE CHURCH EXISTS FOR NON-CHRISTIANS! There... I've said it. It's out! Hang me for heresy! Or... is it? Although it is true that the Church is the body of Christ, made up of those who have accepted His free gift of salvation, the church's mission is to be about making disciples! The Church doesn't exist for the "already convinced"; it exists for those who are far from God.

Now, when I say that the Church "exists for" non-Christians, what I mean is that our primary target is them... we exist to - first and foremost - do ministry in their direction. Isn't that what Jesus said His mission was? "Healthy people do not need a doctor - sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent" (Lk. 5:31-32). "There is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven't strayed away" (Lk. 15:7). "For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost" (Lk. 19:10).

Our Master models the way for us... we are to GO AFTER those who are far from Him, and to make them disciples who follow hard after Him. The Church exists for non-Christians... not for us to cater to ourselves.
