Form Follows Function... in Everything

Okay... tell the truth: that's a pretty sharp-looking picture! YES, IT IS... don't hate, now! :-) The Terps could have used a few of those on Sunday night! Or... maybe not... cuz I didn't make that shot! (or any of the shots I took during those 4 games of basketball at the Staples Center) And you know what? I knew as I was shooting that ball that I looked good... in fact, that was my focus: "Jesus, help me not to look stupid on this shot..." Wide open... no one (as you can see) was within several feet of keeping me from scoring... and I missed it! I looked good... but it didn't matter. I had the form, but that doesn't equal points.

You know what? Many of our lives look good... but when all is said and done, what will we have accomplished? What impact will we have made in the lives of others? What difference will we have made in our world? What will God have to say to us in the end?

Form follows function. A building should be erected with one thought in mind: "What's going to take place here? What will this buiding be used for?" Our lives are the same way: who we are created to be should dictate what we do and how we do it. The Bible is very, very clear... Jesus says the bottom line is this: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength... and love your neighbor as yourself" (Mark 12:30-31).

Love God, love people... all the rest is detail, simply commentary.

So, here's the question: what's forward about you? Is it a passion for God, and for what He loves the most... people? Are you doing what you were created to do... loving God with all that you are and all that you have?

Because if that "function" isn't right... it doesn't matter what else in your life "looks good." And when all is said and done... and we stand before God... "looking good" will not matter much.

"Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone's duty" (Ecclesiastes 12:13).
